How to preserve your eyesight in the modern world
Переглянути сторінку українською
In the 21st century, maintaining good eyesight is becoming an increasingly difficult task. This can be blamed on both general environmental problems – for example, damage to the ozone layer of the atmosphere, which should restrain the powerful flow of ultraviolet rays, and our lifestyle.
We are surrounded by screens everywhere – TVs, computers, mobile phones. However, our eyes are oriented towards reflected light. For millennia, we had enough of it. Of course, we used various lighting devices, but no one had to stare at candles, gas or electric lamps for hours. And now we look at a computer monitor every day – a light source located directly in front of our eyes. This creates an overload from which no protective screen can save us.
Therefore, people who spend a lot of time at the computer simply need to take care of their eyesight. Try to follow simple rules:
- Limit the time spent in front of the monitor – as much as possible. If your work involves a computer, try to associate your leisure time with something else.
- Take a 5-10-minute break every hour, or better yet, every half hour of work.
- During your break, you can perform a set of simple exercises. There are many of them. You can blink your eyes quickly for 1-2 minutes. Look down, sideways, up, and in the other direction several times in a row. Move or slowly draw a figure eight with your eyes – first in one direction, then in the other. You can just sit quietly, placing your warm palms on your eyelids.
- Also take short breaks of 10-15 seconds. Just look away from the screen – best of all, look out the window. Focus your gaze on a distant object.
- Yawn – this contributes to the natural moistening of the eyes.
Also, taking care of your eyesight should be reflected in a balanced diet. For good vision, you need to get enough vitamins (primarily vitamin A, as well as C, E, B and P) and minerals (zinc, copper, selenium, etc.). The best protection for your eyes will be provided by lutein and blueberries.
Lutein
Lutein is a pigment that is part of leaves, flowers, fruits and the retina of the eye. The role of lutein in the physiology of vision has become clear relatively recently; as a component of visual pigments, it was described only in 1985. Researchers have found that lutein acts as a protective screen – firstly, it filters out light from the visually ineffective part of the spectrum before it reaches the photoreceptors, and secondly, it is a photoprotector – it absorbs the flow of light waves from the most aggressive part of the visible spectrum – blue-violet. Without such protection, the retina of the eye quickly deteriorates.
In addition, lutein has a powerful antioxidant effect, it provides protection against free radicals that are formed in direct light. The more lutein in the retina, the less likely it is to be damaged. Lutein also prevents the formation and accumulation of another, harmful pigment – lipofuscin, which causes age-related retinal degeneration.
Lutein is not synthesized in the human body, we get it from food. The pigment is found in yellow-red vegetables and fruits, as well as in dark leafy vegetables. These are orange peppers, carrots, sweet corn, black grapes, persimmons, broccoli, spinach, avocados. Lutein is also found in egg yolk.
We often do not get enough lutein from food. This can be critical for active computer users – they simply need the pigment to maintain vision, and for the elderly, because with age the amount of lutein in the retina decreases. Lutein-M – an effective triple-action herbal preparation will help to replenish the pigment deficiency: it provides nutrition, restoration and protection of the eyes. In addition to lutein, the natural complex includes vitamins A and C, blueberries, zinc, taurine and Jerusalem artichoke.
Lutein not only protects the retina and maintains eye health, but also provides greater clarity of vision. In addition, herbal preparations containing lutein help to avoid the feeling of fatigue and dry eyes that occurs after prolonged work at the computer.
Blueberries
If lutein has been used in ophthalmology relatively recently, the wonderful properties of blueberries to improve vision have been known for centuries. It not only contains many vitamins and minerals necessary for our eyes, but also strengthens the walls of the eye vessels and improves blood supply to the retina. Blueberries are simply necessary for age-related vision impairment, because they are a powerful antioxidant.
Blueberries are contained in all Amrita products for improving vision: Lutein-M, Spirulina with Blueberries, Fitozir Apifit, Okovit Blueberries, Oftalmosan Blueberries.
Provide your eyes with natural protection and try not to overload them. In the modern world, you can easily and simply choose glasses, lenses, or even decide on surgery, but there is nothing more valuable than the vision given by nature, and it is very important to preserve it for many years.
